Founding and Host Partner

Visit Rwanda is proud to be the official Founding and Host Partner of the Basketball Africa League.

 

Through the partnership, Rwanda hosted the first-ever Basketball Africa League tournament at the world class BK Arena during its first three seasons in 2021, 2022, and 2023. Rwanda will host the 2024 playoffs and finals on 24 May – 1 June.

 

This unique collaboration showcases Rwanda as a world-class tourism and investment destination and positions the country as a continental hub for sporting events and sports-based tourism.

 

Visit Rwanda and the Basketball Africa League also collaborate on basketball and youth development initiatives.

Basketball Africa League

The Tournament

This season’s Basketball Africa League season will tip off on Saturday, 9 March 2024 at the Sunbet Arena in Pretoria, South Africa with defending BAL Champions, Al Ahly (Egypt) among seven teams that have competed in the BAL before, alongside first-time participants from Burundi, Central African Republic, Libya, Morocco and Rwanda.

 

The fourth BAL season will feature a record 48 games in Pretoria; Cairo, Egypt; Dakar, Senegal; and Kigali, Rwanda, marking the first BAL games in South Africa and the first time the league will play games in four different countries.

 

The 12 teams have been divided into three conferences of four teams each. Seven of the teams have competed in the BAL before, two of which – Petro de Luanda (Angola) and US Monastir (Tunisia) – will be competing for a record fourth season.

 

Basketball fans around the world are welcome to watch the playoff and final games live at the BK Arena and on broadcast partners.

The Location

The BK Arena is the largest indoor stadium in East Africa, with a capacity to seat 10,000 people. The multi-purpose arena will host all the playoffs and final games of the 2024 Basketball Africa League Season.
